Salimos del Hospital- La maravilla de Facebook

Hola,
Buenos Dias, espero todos esten muy bien. Ayer sab.

Mil gracias,
Sylvia.

Our visit to Cincinnati

Our Visit to Cincinnati
Sat September 18,2010

We stayed in Houston because my beautiful sister Rocio and her husband Juan were very nice and came to Houston to support us. We tried to distract Dante, we took him to a neighboring city of Houston called Keemah , Tx. There's a park really beautiful which is called Keemah Boardwalk www.kemahboardwalk.com , I really recommend it, it is very cool . My friend Sara C. was the one who recommeded it, and Sara...you were right, it is truly a beautiful place. Thanks my friend.

We had very good weather, bad thing was that Dante had just finished his chemo the day before and wasn't in a good mood . On the way to Keemah , Dante vomited in the car and we were thinking about returning , but Dante saw all the games and he wanted to stay. Tio Juan and Tia Roci helped us clean up Dante and we chose to go to the Boardwalk .

There were so many games and many restaurants but Dante only wanted to board the little train , but after that, Dante did not want to do anything, just go to bed. So we went to the Ronald Mcdonald House...Later that night, we went to dinner at Olive Garden , then to Target because we had to get a little cooler to keep Dante's injections cool the whole flight.

Sun. September 19,2010

On Sunday September 19 we flew to Cincinnati with the help of "Angel Flights " They are pilots who have their own plane and donate their time and fuel to help families. We had to go to a mini airport with several hangars , Ellington Field airport.... Thank you Pilot James, and Pilot Tom, you were truly angels to us, God bless you....The flights were fine, only one flight was hard because the last 15 minutes we felt much turbulence , it was a small plane for 6 people, My husband Jorge was in the cockpit with pilot and Dante and I were in the back. Upon landing Dante vomited a lot, poor thing, we cleaned it up with some towels that we had to throw away.

We were very frightened because Dante had not shown side effects in any other chemo, but with this new Chemo " Topotecan "he has. We arrived to Cinci and we stayed in a hotel in Covington , Kentucky , at first I thought they had the wrong hotel, but we realized that Ohio and Kentucky are two states that are divided only by a bridge , such as South Padre Island and Port Isabel, Tx .

Monday September 20, 2010

We arrived at Cincinnati Children's Hospital at 11am and we were there all day with Dr. Weiss , he explained all the treatment, he gave us the "consent" to sign, and he gave us a tour of the special room , the whole situation gave me the chills, really, the city itself, I did not like , The few areas we saw reminded me of Brooklyn , New York, but we have to consider that the treatment is inside the hospital and we would not have to go out much.

The Dr. told us that
one third of patients do extremely well and enter remission ,
another third of patients are able to minimize their disease but disease will continue later on,
and last third of patients do not show absolutely nothing.

We Hope in God and we pray that Dante falls into the first third of patients who have a CR-Complete Remission.

They gave us too much information, too much data , statistics , side effects , I took my binder with me of what I have researched , I told the doctor about my searches of clinical trials, the information that I obtained from the NCI ( National Cancer Institute) that has released to the public. I showed him all my printed data , trials, etc. .I showed him my conversation with an online chat with the organization of nant , I showed him my info about Wisconsin , California , Philadelphia, I asked the differences between the institutions, I told him that I analized the cases , what I saw on case 29 of one of the trials, was a girl with almost the same characteristics as Dante ,

The trial follows certain characteristics, You have to check the following .. the study you can see from http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00253435 According to British Journal of Cancer 1999, http://www.nature.com/bjc/journal/v81/n8/pdf/6694223a.pdf

Stage 4 Patients I answered in red (Dante's info)

Sex Male
age 3
primary tumor site adrenal gland, near kidneys
NMYC copies yes, Micen amplified, not good.
Time (from diagnosis) 5 months
Metastases yes, in the femur , tibia , bone marrow , shoulder
VMA Urine went down from 120's to the 20's Praise the Lord !
I- MIGB number of Treatments apparently recommending 1, but maximum they would give Dante 2 treatments

Clinical Outcomes
CR -Complete remission, (where we want to Dante to be ) , PD -Progressive Disease, PR -Partial Remission, MR -Minor Response, SD -Stable Disease

The doctor was amazed with all that I've read , with what I wanted , and he answered my questions with things that are not even available to Dante anymore, I asked the doctor why was he telling me things that are not availabe anymore and he responded; "I see you read a lot and you do a lot of researching and I dont want you to think, "how come the doctor didnt tell me this or that"

I really thanked the doctor for doing this because yes, more than likely I would've encountered that info and wouldve gone crazy trying to get it for my baby. So, doctor helped me avoid more multiple searches on the Internet. The doctor was very honest and told us that this will not be easy , I stubbornly kept asking chances of survival and to give me a figure , so, he did, the doctor told us that Dante's survival chance is 1 out of 4.

Tuesday September 21,2010

Monday night we went to bed and put alarm clock, we needed to be ready for the 2 flights scheduled with Angel Flights, but at 3 am Dante began with fever 100.5 , and with his cancer they have always told us not to give him anything not even Tylenol , just to take him to the emergency room whenever he has fever.

Neither Jorge nor I wanted to take Dante to E.R. in Cincinnati, because we don't know anybody in Cinci, and besides, that hosital of out of network from my Insurance.. So, we decided to call Rocio ( we didnt have internet ) to buy us first commercial flight to Houston, non-stop. The flight was at 7 am, but we had to be at the airport at 5:45 am, then we didnt go back to bed, instead, we took a shower, got ready and took a taxi to the airport. I gave him a little Tylenol with Codeine to endure the flight. The dose I gave him lasted the exact duration of the flight (2 hrs ).

Dante complained only he last 15 minutes when the plane started to descend. Dante's ears started to hurt and he was shouting very loudly and ugly , the other passangers were just staring at us , but I did not care, I cared about my baby, and I tried to divert Dante's attention as much as possible , he would forget about his pain for short spans, but he then continued to scream in pain .

After landing, his earache went away , We arrived at the clinic (TCH) at 10:30 am, and they were already waiting for Dante, he was treated immediately and they put us in the triage unit at the clinic all day, because there were no hospital rooms available.

Jorge and I gave Dante his 5 pm shot and they finally gave us a room in the hospital at 6pm Upon arrival at the hospital, Dante's fever was under control, but we had to wait for the blood culture until the following day ...

Wednesday September 22, 2010

The culture came back negative, thank God , which means that there was no infection, they gave Dante fluids and medicine. His blood counts dropped considerably and we had to stay admitted in hospital.

Today is Sat. Sept 25, 2010 and we are still in the hospital, room 931, Dante recieved blood transfusion yesterday and today his platelets are at 20, so they will give him a platelets transfusion today. Please pray that his counts go up.....thanks

Nuestra Visita a Cincinnati

Sab 18 Sept

sex Masculino
age 3
primary tumor site glandula renal-adrenal gland
NMYC copies si, Micen amplified,
Time (from diagnosis) 5 meses-5 mo
